Lacie Rugged XL External Hard Drive Review

French company Lacie has announced the availability of a new external hard drive which is perfect for those who work on their computer outdoors where you cannot use conventional storage media.

The new product meets the strict conditions laid down in the military standard MIL-STD-810F and it is resistant to impacts, vibrations, falls and temperature variations. Aluminum casing is designed to be virtually indestructible. Rugged external hard drive XL is also equipped with a special sensor that protects the magnetic disk plate against falls, shocks and vibrations.

If the disk would fall the automatic head which reads the magnetic plates would move to its default position thus it reduces the possibility of damage of the magnetic surface and loss of data. For data storage through USB and eSATA interfaces there is available 1 TB of space.

External hard drive Lacie Rugged XL will soon be in stores for around 160 U.S. dollars. In Europe it should be significantly more expensive and will come to stores in the autumn.
